Free Zone Company Setup Consultants in UAE

Licensing is the easy part. Choosing the right activity, zone and structure is where we earn our fee.

Free zone company setup consultants in the UAE handle the whole route to a licensed company: choosing the right zone, picking a license activity, preparing documents, and getting your visas and bank account moving. A free zone lets foreign owners hold 100% of the company. You trade under a license issued by the zone authority, not the mainland licensing department. That’s the short version. The rest of this page covers where the details bite.

At ASC Global, we’ve spent 30+ years helping 5,000+ clients through this process. Most of them didn’t need a lecture on free zones. They needed someone to say which route fits their business and which one will cause problems in year two.

Why Choose ASC Global as Your Free Zone Consultants

Anyone can submit a form. That’s not the hard part.

The hard part is the decision before the form: which zone, which activity, which legal structure, how many visas. Get one of those wrong and you either pay to fix it later or live with it. Honestly, we see the second outcome more often than the first.

Here’s what working with us looks like in practice:

  • One point of contact. You aren’t passed between a licensing person, a visa person and a banking person.
  • Plain advice. If a free zone isn’t right for you, we’ll say so.
  • Compliance in view from day one. Setup is the start of your obligations, not the end of them.

And we don’t push a zone because it pays us a commission. Ask any consultant about that. The answer tells you a lot.

Free Zone Company Setup in the UAE: Key Facts

Item What it means for you
Foreign ownership 100% foreign ownership is permitted
Licensing authority The free zone authority, not the mainland licensing department
Common legal forms Free Zone Establishment (FZE) for a single shareholder; Free Zone Company (FZCO) for multiple shareholders; or a branch of an existing company
Corporate tax 9% on taxable income above AED 375,000; a Qualifying Free Zone Person may get 0% on qualifying income
Trading inside the UAE Restricted. Selling directly to mainland customers usually needs an extra route
Visas Allocated according to your license package and office space
Office requirement Varies by zone. Some accept flexible desks, others want a leased unit

One caution on that table. Free zone rules differ from zone to zone, and they change. We confirm every detail with the relevant authority before we advise you, and you should do the same with anyone else.

Which Business Activities Are Allowed?

Free zones license a wide range of activities. Trading, consulting, e-commerce, technology, media, light manufacturing, logistics, professional services. Each zone, though, only licenses certain activities, and some zones focus on specific industries.

So the activity decides the zone. Not the other way around.

Here’s what trips up a lot of clients: they pick a zone for its brand or its headline price, then find out their exact activity isn’t offered, or needs a separate approval. We check this first. It takes ten minutes and saves weeks.

A license can also carry more than one activity, in many cases. If you’re planning to expand your services later, mention it now.

Cost and Fee Overview

People ask for a number straight away. Fair enough.

But I’m not going to print a figure on this page, because free zone fees vary widely and change often. What we can tell you is what makes up the bill:

  • License fee (annual, and tied to the activity and package)
  • Registration and application fees
  • Office or flexi-desk charges
  • Visa costs: establishment card, residence visa, Emirates ID, medical test
  • Share capital, where the zone requires it (some set a minimum, some don’t)
  • Bank account and any professional service fees

The cheapest package on paper isn’t always the cheapest in practice. A low license fee with a tiny visa quota can cost more once you need to hire. We give you a full written breakdown before you commit to anything.

How Free Zone Setup Works: Step by Step

  1. Define the business. Activity, shareholders, expected team size, where your customers are.
  2. Choose the zone and package. This is where good consultants earn their fee.
  3. Pick the legal form. FZE, FZCO or a branch.
  4. Reserve the trade name. It has to follow the authority’s naming rules.
  5. Submit the application and documents. The authority reviews and, if all is in order, approves.
  6. Receive the license and lease or flexi-desk agreement.
  7. Apply for visas and Emirates ID. Medical test, biometrics, the lot.
  8. Open the corporate bank account. Allow time here. Honestly, this is the slowest step for many founders.
  9. Register for tax. Corporate tax registration applies, and VAT may apply depending on your turnover.

Timelines depend on the zone and how complete your paperwork is. A clean file moves fast. A file with missing documents doesn’t move at all.

Documents Required

The exact list varies by zone and by shareholder type, but expect to prepare:

  • Completed application form
  • Passport copies for all shareholders and managers
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Proof of residential address
  • Visa copy and Emirates ID, if the applicant already lives in the UAE
  • No-objection letter, where an applicant is sponsored by another employer
  • Business plan, for activities that need one
  • For corporate shareholders: certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles, and board resolution (often attested)

Corporate documents are where delays pile up. Attestation takes time, and one wrong stamp sends you back to the start. So start early.

Who Should (and Shouldn’t) Choose a Free Zone

A free zone is usually a good fit if you:

  • Want full foreign ownership
  • Serve clients outside the UAE, or sell mainly within the zone
  • Run a service, consulting, technology or trading business
  • Want a simpler setup with bundled license, office and visa packages

Think twice if you:

  • Plan to sell directly to UAE consumers or government entities at scale
  • Need a large retail or street-front presence
  • Rely on tenders that require a mainland license

Does that mean free zones are wrong for local sales? Not always. There are routes: appointing a distributor, setting up a mainland branch, or holding a second license. But they add cost and structure, and you should plan for them up front, not discover them after your first big customer asks for a local invoice.

How ASC Global Helps

Our consultants take the process off your desk, but we don’t take the decisions away from you.

We start with a short call to understand the business. Then we shortlist zones that actually license your activity, compare the real costs side by side, and tell you what we’d choose and why. After that we prepare and submit the file, follow the authority’s feedback, and support you through visas, Emirates ID and bank onboarding.

And once you’re licensed, we’re still here: accounting, corporate tax, VAT, audit and renewals. Setup is a one-time job. Compliance isn’t. It repeats every year, and the businesses that handle it early tend to have fewer surprises.

Yes. Free zones allow 100% foreign ownership, with no local sponsor or partner required. You hold the license in your own name or through your holding company. The legal form, shareholder documents, and approvals still depend on the zone you choose.

Not directly, in most cases. A free zone license covers activity inside the zone and international trade. To serve mainland customers, you usually need a distributor, a mainland branch, or a separate mainland license. The right route depends on your business model.

They can. UAE corporate tax is 9% on taxable income above AED 375,000. A company that qualifies as a Qualifying Free Zone Person may get 0% on qualifying income, but other income is taxed at 9%. Meeting the conditions requires proper records and planning.

It depends on your license package and office space. Smaller packages give a limited visa quota, while larger offices allow more. If you expect to hire quickly, we plan the visa allocation before choosing the package, not after.

It varies by zone and by how quickly documents are ready. Complete, correctly attested paperwork speeds everything up. Bank account opening often takes longer than the license itself, so we run that in parallel wherever possible.
